A housekeeping note: I am working on a bunch of pieces, but I am having to deal with some significant family and health issues, so content might be slow the next couple of weeks. Apologies in advance.

First Lady Maria Lee to Visit Unicoi and Cocke Counties on Monday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On Monday, September 9, Tennessee First Lady Maria Lee will participate in a clean-up effort at Lamar Alexander Rocky Fork State Park in Unicoi County. Registration and volunteer information to serve alongside Lee is available here. Lee will then travel to Newport to serve at Empower Cocke County, a local nonprofit that facilitates positive life change through faith-based skill building and workforce development training.

In May, Lee launched Tennessee Serves, an initiative designed to encourage Tennesseans to serve one another and volunteer in their communities with a special focus on distressed counties. Cocke County is one of Tennessee’s 15 federally-designated distressed counties. Through Tennessee Serves, Lee also issues monthly service challenges to motivate Tennesseans to serve in various ways. This month, Tennessee State Parks partnered with Lee to host Tennessee Serves volunteer events in parks across the state.
